How to Avoid Neck Pain While Working at a Desk

1. Position Your Screen at Eye Level

  • Keep the monitor 20–28 inches from your face.

Staying in one position for too long increases tension.

  • Set a timer to remind yourself to stretch every 30–60 minutes.
  • Take a quick walk to loosen your neck and shoulders.

3. Keep Your Shoulders Relaxed

Tensed shoulders can add to neck pain.

  • Sit upright and keep your shoulders down and back.
  • Avoid shrugging your shoulders while typing.

4. Support Your Lower Back

A poorly supported lower back can cause your neck to strain.

  • Use a chair with lumbar support to maintain proper alignment.

5. Stretch Throughout the Day

Simple stretches can release tension.

  • Try neck tilts: Gently tilt your head toward your shoulder and hold for 15 seconds.
  • Repeat on the other side.
